The development of the digital games industry can be expressed as a summary of the last fifty years of the world under different horizons. As the world stretched from the end of the cold war to a new world order, digital games began to create a new world of their own. This sector, which started with simple technological dreams, has reached a reality far beyond these dreams today.
This book evaluates the important developments from the birth of the digital game industry to the present in terms of business ethics. In addition to the rise and collapse of large companies in the digital game industry, the change in the technological and economic structures of games in the industry since the beginning of the industry, and the evolution of sexuality and violence exploitation, which are the continuous problems of the industry, together with technology are also explained.
The purpose of this book is to examine the processes that the digital game industry has gone through since its inception in terms of business ethics and to be better prepared for new business ethics problems that may be encountered in the digital game industry. Thanks to such preparation, it will be possible to appreciate when new business ethics problems are encountered, whether they are really new problems or classic problems that may seem new with the development of technology. Such an approach can ensure that genuinely new problems are given the attention they deserve and that they can quickly intervene in classical problems that may appear new. Although there are periods in which the development of the digital game industry slowly evolves, it is also seen that the industry has gone through major revolutions with the impact of both technological and cultural events. Examining the mistakes made as well as the correct applications include valuable lessons that can shed light on the present and the future.
While examining these processes, not only the events in the United States and Japan were examined, but also the spread of the digital game industry around the world, the developments in our country and the unique dynamism of the South Korean digital game industry were also evaluated.
