Identity, in the world of gaming, and especially in digital gaming, has always been a controversial topic. The relationship between the game and the player, the player and the avatar, the game and the avatar appears in many ways. Especially in the digital gaming world, where the phenomenon of existence is increasing with the developing graphics technology, the feeling of ‘being there’ with the support of VR technologies, especially the FPS camera angle, is advancing day by day.

As the phenomena of ‘presence’ and ‘immersion’ developed, the representations in the games and the positioning of these representations in the games and, more importantly, the effects on the player have increased greatly. Identity undoubtedly emerges as one of the most important topics of the 20th and 21st centuries. Especially in this period when poststructuralist thought is at the forefront, the issue of identity, which was discussed by French thinkers, also affects both the analog and digital game world.

This book titled Digital Games 2.0: Gameplay and Identity aims to understand player identity, analyze the historical ties of player identity, research player identity with different methodologies and analyze the relationship between the game and the player through identity, which has changed for different reasons and intervals since the 80s.
