GAMING EXPERIENCES IN DIGITAL AND VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS

Play is an artistic phenomenon that has existed since the beginning of humanity. 21st century games, with the contribution of digital media, have become an indispensable form of behavior of humanity, which is exempt from time and space, forms its own culture and rules, but at the same time seems free and has the same characteristics as social media platforms that appeal to people's impulses. Especially in the age we are in, while humanity defines a lot of information through digital platforms, content blended with games is becoming more and more important day by day. Games are among the topics that need to be discussed the most in the digital age and should be integrated into many professions and learning models, as they create spaces where people can reveal their potential and direct their impulses, but digital addiction, which is considered one of the digital diseases, is seen as the most important negative effect of games.


The aim of this book is to investigate the negative and positive effects of digital games on Generation Z by converting the emotional changes caused by digital games into concrete data in line with the measurement of emotional changes in Generation Z with the EMOTIV EPOCX EEG device. In this book, where both console and virtual reality games were experienced, data on six different emotional states, namely stress, engagement, interest, excitement, focus, relaxation, were collected and compared through the device. In this way, a different perspective has been provided on the concept of gaming, which is between addiction and utilitarianism but also indispensable, and a step has been taken to turn the negative aspects of the game into positive by approaching the emotional transformations of individuals from a scientific perspective.
