Francesca Sirtori
With the technological evolution, we witness a corresponding transformation in the video game industry. But can the same be said for the consideration of the female figure within the medium? This question is addressed in this volume by examining the perspectives of female gamers and the portrayal of female characters in both 'AAA' and independent video games. At its core are the testimonies of girls and women who passionately dedicate themselves to gaming every day, revealing a greater number than one might expect.
By comparing gaming habits, production methods, and the theoretical and graphic conception of female avatars in video games, this research provides evidence of how certain stereotypes and prejudices against the female universe are not always well-founded. Instead, they indicate signs of significant openness and change.
