Paula Velasco Padial, Antonio Flores Ledesma
The video game has gone from being underground to becoming mass entertainment. In the process it has been seamlessly integrated into the cultural industry of Western capitalism . However, cultural criticism has focused more on individual and subjective perspectives.
This volume collects essays that seek to express that dissidence against the majority currents and give space to other ways of thinking about the video game that take into account both its formal and socioeconomic conditions. The essays in this volume aim to point out from different perspectives and profiles within the video game (from developers to academics) that hidden discourse that has different faces and objectives, but that is framed in the same context of hegemonic capitalism.
Video games are cultural products that, like all others, contain a way of seeing the world and of being in the world that disseminates and educates its users . It is ideology that is at stake.
