Antonio César Moreno Cantano
The Brexit discourse in the UK has been built on many of the premises of dystopia, a literary genre that is closer to us today than ever. The video game world, of course, has not been immune to dystopias, and has found in them a fertile ground in which to develop some of its most interesting and memorable simulations. Thus, it was inevitable that interactive entertainment would explore, directly or indirectly, the tensions, fears and conflicts that have precipitated some of the most radical and worrying changes in Europe in recent decades.
In Pixelated Albion, Professor Antonio César Moreno Cantano explores the relationship between video games and dystopia in order, with Brexit as a backdrop, to demonstrate the ideological potential of interactive entertainment, the contemporary medium best prepared to generate debate.
