Benjamin Berget
Ignorance of a video game leads to ignorance even of its meaning: the less we know, the more we are condemned to stay on the field of controversy. This book intends to elevate the debate by retracing the controversies over thirty years, a particularly breathless ideological conflict. This first volume is devoted to racing/action games, the Grand Theft Auto phenomenon, as well as the voyeurism of pornographic games and the "rape simulator" Rapelay. The first appendix recounts the moral crusade of Families of France, an association that tried to regulate the creation of games according to religious criteria. A second reveals the importance of sexism in games and deciphers the scandal that a French magazine had caused for having made "the apology for the rape of Lara Croft". This volume contains at the end of the book exclusive interviews that opens up new horizons.
