From pink hackathons to programming courses aimed at young women, the text investigates not so much the causes and mechanisms that keep women away from information technology, but rather the motivations, personal and professional experiences and critical points of view of "the few" who populate the world of information technology in the role of programmers, engineers, managers, students, teachers, activists.
The scarce presence of women in technical-scientific paths has acquired increasing importance thanks to the proliferation of initiatives and intervention proposals aimed at raising awareness in educational, professional and institutional environments about the gender imbalance in science and technology. This volume takes shape from a sociological research that has investigated various networks, Italian and international organizations and initiatives created to combat gender inequalities in the field of information technology. In giving voice to the professionals who consider their work and their technical knowledge non-neutral from the point of view of gender, this book therefore wants to bring out the image of another world, in which women, instead of being intimidated by computers, they derive pleasure from it and recognize its social value, contributing, also through the open contestation of gender asymmetries, to challenge the stereotypes that permeate culture and technical practices.
