Óliver Pérez Latorre
Since the birth of video games as a mass culture phenomenon in the 1970s, analytical perspectives on them have primarily focused on their status as a technological object, a commercial product of a new and emerging industry, a means of entertainment, an educational resource, an influence on youth behavior, and more recently, as a cultural artifact. However, video game design also introduces a new language—the language of game rules, structures, and the dynamics of playful interactivity.
This book aims to explore the structures and expressive resources that make video game design a unique language, offering a methodology for analyzing video games as a form of communication. It also highlights that not only serious or persuasive games convey a "message," but that behind every video game, including mainstream commercial ones, lies a discourse—a particular worldview, a specific point of view.
