The video game has become a common object of popular culture. In this, it is accessible by a large part of the population.
As a medium, the video game is a contemporary technique of escape. It fills Man in his fantasy of an inaccessible elsewhere. Like travelogues, it leads the mind to still unknown spaces; like fantasy novels, it turns to places that make you dream; like the epic, it is an open window on the world. Thus, by its narration but also by the way in which the player interacts with the videogame universe (gameplay), the video game gives a vision of the world. This is all the more true when it comes to representations of the past.
Through the study of these representations and historical themes, these works analyze the cultural values that pass through video games. What are these themes and their representations? Do they participate in state propaganda, proselytizing ideas or values?
